Five months old

Washington trip

Mommy and I took a weekend trip west to visit Washington this weekend. I got to meet all kind of Mommy's friends, and had fun hanging out with Mommy!

Meeting family in Canada

There is so much family to meet, everywhere I go! Today Mom and I went to Maple Ridge, B.C. to meet the family there. Uncle Tony was away, but I got to meet Auntie Max and John, Gavin and Dean, and Bobbie. It was a fun day, and I got lots of snuggles!

Teddy Roosevelt National Park

We took Uncle Garth to Teddy Roosevelt National Park today, and we got to check out lots of cool things. Bria even got to go for a hike! We hiked about a mile to the Prairie Dog Town, which was pretty neat to see. And Bria enjoyed the snuggle time!

It is a very exciting week here - Uncle Garth has come to visit from New Zealand. (Well, maybe not from New Zealand...on his way to the U.K. from Vancouver, B.C.!)

This week's hot new thing

Bria is growing and changing every day - it's so fun to watch as she learns new tricks and has new favorite things to do!

Last week it was all about her feet, but she was just playing with them. Now they go straight into the mouth, where her toes make excellent pacifiers.

Her other new thing is to "growl." It's how she's communicating these days, and she's doing it almost constantly when she's awake! Super cute, and of course there is video to come!

Two-year-old Brendan loves to play with Bria, and decided she should wear the Halloween mask he found in Cam's toy box. She was game, so they had fun!

Busy growing

Bria has been a busy girl, putting all her energy into growing big!

At her appointment this morning, her measurements were...

Weight: Twelve pounds
Length: 22-7/8 inches
Head: 16-1/8 inches

And in metric...

Weight: 5.44 kilos
Length: 58.1 centimetres
Head: 40.96 centimetres

(Oh yeah, and she peed on the scale. Silly mom for not paying attention when she took her diaper off!)

Snagged some juice

Bria was hanging out on the floor and got her hands on one of the daycare kids' juice cups. She must have thought it was a good plan, cuz she spent lots of time with the basically empty cup in her mouth. She manipulated the cup really well. Guess she's about ready for a cup! (Snapped this photo on my phone, thus the poor quality.)

Bria is so big! She picked this cup up when one of the daycare kids dropped it, and thought it seemed like a great idea! She's not drinking out of it, yet, but she did manipulate it to drink out of it properly!

Putting off cereal again, and new stuff!

Bria was sitting on the couch this morning when one of the daycare kids dropped a toy and scared her! She cried and cried - the first time she's been really startled by a noise. Then in the afternoon, she kept crying every time I left the room. She's not supposed to be big enough for that yet!

Well, the cereal experiment lasted two nights, and didn't seem to have any impact. So back to waiting until she is six months old to start her on solid foods. The benefits are definitely there, and we are't going to get any more sleep if we feed her, anyway.

The sleep thing is a little strange and frustrating, though. After sleeping through the night almost since the beginning, the last few weeks she has taken to waking up several times in the night - sometimes as often as every two hours. Hopefully it is a very short phase!

The toe's the thing!

Our sweet baby girl is growing bigger every day, and learning lots of new things. This week her new discovery is her feet - and she loves them! She spends her time with her feet in her hands, rolling back and forth on her back and cooing. She worked and worked and finally got her toe in her mouth, and now there's no going back! Those toes are awfully sweet and small!
