Tiny, tiny baby

Bria had her shots this morning - and then came home to tell Mommy how awful it was! She had DTP, Polio, Hib, Pneumococcal conjugate and rotavirus vaccines.

She weighed in at 11 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 23.25" long (5.22 kilos, 59 centimetres), which puts her in about the 10th percentile. She is very small, but her doctor is happy with her growth, because she maintaining a good steady arc. She is doing well!

Four months old!

Bria is four months old today! She is growing so fast, and is such a smily and sweet baby. She loves people, and interacts with absolutely everyone. :-)

She can roll over, and scoots around in a circle when she plays on the floor. She is not a big fan of tummy time, but Mom and Dad keep trying to convince her it's fun!

For the last few weeks it has looked like she is trying to get her first tooth, but it's not showing through yet. Just lots of drool so far!

Bria likes sports, and enjoys watching them on TV or in person. She's had lots of chances to watch them, between the Olympics, her brother and sister, and Daddy's rugby downloads.

She is still exclusively breastfed, and is doing well with it. We are planning to wait until she is six months old to introduce solid foods, and she seems to be ready to wait.

Bria is everyone's little princess, we all think she is the most beautiful thing ever!

Playing outside

The weather was so beautiful this weekend, Bria even got to go outside! She got all dressed up in her sweatshirt and went out with Maia, Ella, Cameron, and Kayla to play basketball in the driveway.

A little help from my friends

Bria got some help bouncing in the Merry Muscles this morning.

Milestones

A couple of milestones for Bria this week - she is growing up!

Two days ago she weaned off her nursing shield (she started using it in the hospital to help her nurse because she sucked her tongue which made it difficult to eat), and hasn't used it since. Yay big girl! (And it makes it lots easier for Mom - cuz now we don't have to remember to bring it with, or find one in order to feed the baby!)

She also started sleeping in her crib in the nursery! Last night was the second night. Mom or Dad snuggle her to sleep, then she sleeps in the crib on her lamby. They set up the monitor (we can even hear her breathe from all he way downstairs), then Mom tries to sleep without her baby girl next to her!

Big steps, and she doesn't seem to mind at all. :-)

Bria's eyes

We've been wondering just what color baby Bria's eyes were going to turn out since she was born! They tend to be sort of a smoky blue color, though occasionally there is a hint of another shade. Today they are quite green! Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Bria's first walk

The snow is finally receding, and Bria got to go for a walk for the very first time today! Okay, so she had to get bundled up to go out. But at least she got to go out!

Rolling over!...and teething?

Bria rolled over for the first time at about 10:30 this morning! She is growing up so fast, what a big girl! She was lying on her tummy (which she hates) and rolles herself right over, first onto her side, then her back. She acted like it was no big deal at all, but when Mommy tried to get her to do it again so we could take a video, she got mad!

It also appears she may be teething. She's had a couple of fussy days now, and her fists are constantly in her mouth, which is new. She is wearing an amber teething necklace, so hopefully that makes things a little easier on her, and today we gave her teething tablets a couple of times.

Allergy experiment continues

Well, we have been pet-free for nine days now, and we still think there is less and less pet in the house every day. Her eyes have been clear since day two, but the stuffy nose continues. We're giving it a few more days to see, but it does seem as though sending the pets away has helped.

Allergy experiment day four

It definitely seems the allergy experiment is working for our baby girl. She woke up this morning and nursed without having any trouble breathing - something she hasn't been able to do easily in a long time!

Allergy experiment: Day Two

Today, Bria's eyes continue to be clear, and as of 5:30 this evening, not a cough all day. The allergy experiment continues...

Allergy experiment: Day One

Bria has been suffering with what seems like cold symptoms for three months now. At the beginning she was just baby stuffy, which seemed perfectly normal (especially since she had a c-section). After a while, she had blood work done to make sure it was nothing more serious, and the doctor thought she just had a cold that was hanging on.

As time goes on, though, it becomes clear the runny eyes, stuffy nose and cough may not be a cold, after all. We're thinking it may be allergies. Much to our dismay, that means we look to the cat and dog, who are a part of the family!

It seems blood allergy tests on babies her age can be misleading and/or inaccurate, so the best option is to remove the pets from the home, do a thorough cleaning, and then give her about a week to see if her symptoms improve.

Soooo, yesterday the dog went to stay with Grandma, and Mom cleaned the bedroom where Bria sleeps from top to bottom. The carpets and beds were vacuumed, every nook and cranny was cleaned, all of the linens went through the wash. With a clean room and the cat shut upstairs so she couldn't sleep with us, Bria woke up this morning without runny eyes. A good first sign for her!

This afternoon, the cat went to stay with friends, and the experiment continues. Now the living room, where Bria spends most of her day, has been cleaned, too, and Mom is starting in on the rest of the house.
